Telephonic interview

Dress for Interview – a little way of success

Very few interview invitations come with a dress code.

Yet how we dress for a job interview can dramatically impact how comfortable (or awkward) we feel.

So what should you do?

The keys are to seem smart and concentrate on non-public hygiene

Dress Code for Interview

Most companies will offer you information about their interview dress code if you phone their reception.

Even if they say they have a casual dress policy, it’s still a good idea to dress slightly smarter to show you’ve made the effort. If unsure, dress slightly smarter than you always would for work.

during the interview or assessment center pause and think about the activities you may be undertaking.  Be aware that you simply may do things you are not expecting: say you’re applying for employment within the marketing department of a producing company they’ll take you on a factory tour. For ladies, the important considerations are the length of the skirt, the comfort of shoes, and plunge of the neckline (do you really want to feel self-conscious, in case you flash more cleavage than appropriate.

It’s a really good idea to try out your interview clothes a few days beforehand, to make sure they’re comfortable.

And always remember to get suits dry cleaned in good time – it’s easy to forget!

Personal Hygiene

You only get one chance to form a primary impression. No matter how beautiful your clothes, your personal hygiene could let you down.

Top Tips to Remember:

  • Iron your clothes – and check how wrinkled they might look after 2 hours in a car or train.
  • Get hair your clean and tidy – get it cut well in advance of the job interview, so you’re comfortable with the style.
  • Clean, tidy fingernails – this doesn’t mean a full manicure, it just means you’ll feel more confident shaking hands with the interviewer.
  • Polished shoes – many a great suit is let down by dirty shoes.
  • Perfumes and deodorants – it’s great to smell nice, but confirm your favorite scent doesn’t knock out the interviewer; many of us have reactions to strong perfumes and aftershaves! If in doubt, ask a trusted friend.

You only get one chance to form a primary impression and you’ll feel more relaxed if you recognize you’re looking your best.
